April 19, 2020 Update!

Recently the Governor announced that schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. We know this is a challenging time for our community.  In an effort to support our families and students during this extended school closure, our central office staff and school leaders have collaborated to develop a Continuous Learning Plan for our district. (https://docs.google.com/document/d/183mlQYT9wcdgLAH1prieLXSbyIMu1x7Ae-ptnH5gDE0/edit?fbclid=IwAR2SeDIENq21SFoPlQeChL-qVS_vVMJ-KsV0vrvDXiAZGfmkn1tLMdym5rE#heading=h.jzkedec7bgo2) This plan outlines our step by step process to ensure that ALL students receive instructional support during this extended closure. This support will continue well into the 2020-2021 school year when all students and staff return safely to our schools.

Beginning April 20th - April 22nd, teachers and school administrators will be calling parents of their students, as part of our Vermilion Community Call-Out Mission. Teachers want to check in on our families and provide information regarding end of the year grades, waiving of state testing and our Supplemental Continuous Learning Guide.(https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PhaQTgRsJ4TMOHEvBYmPH8eFuPqaBnAjUsngf3BOaeI/edit)  These phone calls may come to you from a “blocked number” or “No Caller ID”. We encourage you to accept our teacher's phone calls and hear about all of the wonderful support we are prepared to offer!  Please visit our district website at https://www.vpsb.net under our COVID-19 Information Page to view our extensive Continuous Learning Plan.

April 3, 2020 Update!

Vermilion Parish public schools will remain closed through April 30th. This decision follows the Governor's proclamation issued today regarding the 'stay at home' order. Please continue to visit the COVID-19 Resources Link on the https://www.vpsb.net/ website. Thoughts and prayers are with our students, staff, families, and communities at this time.

Due to the Governor’s proclamation on 3/13/2020, Vermilion Parish Public Schools and Central Office are being closed beginning March 16th to April 17th. The Governor’s proclamation closes school from March 16th - April 13th. Our closure continues through the Vermilion Parish spring break April 10th - April 17th.  Students and staff report back to school on April 20th, unless further closures are announced by the Governor.

Updates will be posted on the VPSB website (www.vpsb.net) and will also be shared through the news media.  All schools and central office will be closed during this time.  All school sponsored events and athletic games and practices are cancelled immediately and until further notice.   Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our students, staff, families and community. Download our Interim Superintendent’s note here or read the note below!

All instructional pacing and grading will be suspended until further notice. Teachers have been advised not to require any type of assignments. The only exceptions are for high school students taking dual enrollment courses, as these are part of the university system. At the request of parents, online resources are available at https://www.vpsb.net/205029_2. The Louisiana Department of Education has approved initial waivers for a number of educational policies that impact all students, including students with disabilities.
